Microbiota decussata 'Gold Sport'

Russian Arborvitae

Plant Type:

CONIFERS

Microbiota decussata 'Gold Sport' - Golden splashes on the dark green foliage is the hallmarkd of this rare form. 'Gold Sport' will look as if dappled sun is striking and accentuating the plant even when planted in full, open shade. This also tends to be more upright growing that the striaght green species. Siberian or russian Arborvitae thrives in open shade though is tolerant of perhaps three-quarters of a day sun. Requiring good drainage Microbiota decussata will rot in soil that is too moisture-retentive or in low areas where wet collects. Exceptional hardiness for northern gardeners we are uncertain as to how this wonderful monotypic species will perform south of USDA zone 7... anyone know? This also tends to be more upright growing that the straight green species. The species comes from Russia but we do not know where this variant may have been espied or collected. Established pot grown plant from cutting.
