Ammocharis coranica

Karoo Lily

Plant Type:

BULBS

Ammocharis coranica (ex: Seneca Hill Perennials) - 1 remaining. This is a stunner! A rosette of attractive broad blue-green overlapping strap-shaped leaves arise and hold horizontally just above the ground rather like stylized starfish but with several more arms. The foliage subtends a sturdy stem that tops off at about 12 inches supporting an enormous umbel of beautiful deep pink to red-pink flowers. And it's fragrant, too. The Karoo Lily ranges broadly from Karoo into the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Site in sun planted in well-drained soil. In the north this will make a beautiful cool greenhouse subject. This should be in the conservatory collection of every botanic garden - it's just that worthy. If purchasing in autumn purchase it for a greenhouse, conservatory or alpine house.
