Andrachne colchica
Caucasian Spurge
Plant Type:
DECIDUOUS SHRUBSAndrachne colchica (ex: Dan Hinkley) – Sets of 5 plugs available - 1 set = 5 plugs. Cover some ground! This is the Caucasian Spurge, a member of the Euphorbiaceae which came to us from the original Heronswood Nursery in Washington State. Its affect is that of a low shrub, generally domed though in the happiest circumstances it will grow taller quicker. Little known in the trade it exhibits a soft, delicate demeanor but is a tough, useful and versatile shrubby plant that slowly sizes up with small oval leaves on wiry stems. In late spring terminal tiny green flowers and though not showy do add a lacier quality to the overall look of this already delicate looking shrub. We have ours planted in poor scrabbled soil in our succulent garden sited in full blazing sun where it has achieved about 2 feet at the apex of the dome. In richer soils and in part shade it will probably grow upwards of 3 feet and might spread a bit more quickly. Useful as a front of the border plant or between but sited forward of taller shrubs it is easy, attractive, tough and weed-proof - useful in a difficult spot where low maintenance is a requirement. Established potted Caucasian Spurge from division or cutting grown.
