Aurinia saxatilis 'Dudley Nevill Variegated'
Basket of Gold
Plant Type:
SUN PERENNIALSAurinia saxatilis 'Dudley Nevill Variegated' (form. Alyssum) - This is a Basket of Gold with a difference, actually two... The dusty gray-green leaves edged in white, a foil for spring flowers that are golden yellow infused with a touch of apricot. Florets are clustered atop short stems; they are profuse and en masse very showy. Madwort, another common moniker and one with which I identify, is a strong candidate for a wall, a rock garden or front of the raised perennial border where it will sprawl and cascade. It demands full to near full sun and average to modestly fertile and sandy soil. A too-rich mix will lead to rot. Winter drainage is important. Not a plant for the deep south it will appreciate a bit more shade towards the southern end of its range. Established potted perennial from cutting.
