Scrophularia auriculata 'Variegata' - Coarse green leaves with pinkish-red leaf stems are boldly margined in creamy white. Small, fat, rounded tubular flowers squat flowers are curiously red to red-brown and attract hummingbirds. Variegated Water Figwort is a virtual evergreen in warmer climes. Easy. Site in full sun to part shade in constantly moist soil, sandy loam is excellent. Farther south plant it in more shade. This herbaceous perennial will be very content stream side or at the edge of a pond. Cut Scrophularia auriculata 'Variegata' back if the foliage becomes worn by mid season and it will recover quickly with new, dense and bushy foliage. We have seen this plant listed as being hardy to USDA zone 3 - don't believe it! Cutting grown.
