Dirca decipiens

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Dirca decipiens (ex: Seneca Hills) – is a recently identified new species discovered by Aaron Floden. It is an endemic found thus far in one location in Kansas and two in Arkansas. He claims that it resembles something akin to a stocky miniature oak tree as a mature specimen displays much character. Three fragrant yellow flowers emerge from each and every node in spring. Light green egg-shaped leaves become infused with soft yellow late season. Both flowers and foliage are larger than its cousin, D. palustris. These shrubs will be happiest in bright open shade to dappled conditions becoming insipid-looking in sun. Cutting grown.
