Asphodeline damascena

King's Spear

Plant Type:

ARID LAND PLANTS

Asphodeline damascena – This fine monocarpic plant blooms long and beautifully in white-touched-pink above gray-green to light blue tufts of grassy foliage, bluer than A. lutea. This plant is doing well for us in USDA zone 5b in xeric conditions planted in sand, crushed stone and compost in nearly full sun where it happily self-sows. It’s not commonly encountered and worthy of greater use. Just be certain not to plant asphodelines in a too-rich, moisture retaining mix or they will certainly rot. Add lime to the scrabble. Seed grown.
