Alstroemeria x 'Laura's Flame'

Peruvian Lily

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Alstroemeria ‘Laura’s Flame’ (ex: Jonathan Lehrer) EXCLUSIVE. This beautiful Peruvian Lily comes to us from Professor Jonathan Lehrer. It is an unusual variegated form in that the centers of each leaf are golden surrounded by broad green margins. ‘Laura’s Flame’ sports a reversed variegation as found in her sister, ‘Sweet Laura Variegated’ (aka ‘Glory of the Andes’). As with ‘Sweet Laura’, ‘Laura’s Flame’ has typical bright golden yellow fragrant flowers with orange-coral spotting on the petal reverse with those rich contrasting colors mirrored in the anthers and pistil. With an extensive bloom period in summer she will sometimes grace us with a rebloom late season. Professor Lehrer tells us that “the plant cropped up among fresh divisions of 'Glory of the Andes' (the variegated 'Sweet Laura') at UConn somewhere around 2004. It was identified, isolated, propagated and proved stable.” And he reports that there is no other form of which he is aware with this kind of reversed variegation pattern [except now for 'Indie Star'!]; all other variegated forms display gold leaf edges with a green interior. Jonathan Lehrer kindly has allowed us to introduce this wonderful perennial and we thank him for this honor. Our Alstroemerias can be grown in USDA zone 5b if planted in a microclimate or sheltered in winter. All of our Peruvian lilies are perfectlyLayr; perennial planted along the south foundation of our home. Site ‘Laura’s Flame’ in full sun planted in draining fertile soil. Clumping. Watch out for voles! Division.

Genus Overview: Alstroemeria

Peruvian Lilies are now being bred with greater hardiness. Our Alstroemerias can be grown in USDA zone 5b if planted in a microclimate or sheltered in winter. All of our Peruvian lilies are perfectly perennial planted along the south foundation of our home where they are bathed in full sun. Presently, two Peruvian Lilies we offer are exclusive to Quackin' Grass Nursery and there may be a third coming... Indeed, 'Indie Star' was spotted as sport variant here while 'Laura's Flame' came to us via Professor Jonathan Lehrer. All are variegated forms and enchanting. Site in full or nearly full sun in any decent garden soil. Our Peruvian Lilies are offered by good old-fashioned perennial division.
