Wasabia japonica 'Mazuma'

Japanese Horseradish

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Wasabia japonica ‘Mazuma’ –  Deep dark green rounded glossy and gently toothed leaves are prominently veined, very attractive. The clumping mound with slow to moderate increase rises to 6". White flowers arise in spring to 12" on this, the honest-to-goodness Japanese Horseradish. Yes, this is the vegetable from which wasabi is processed. This pasty and very hot pale green condiment misused with sushi will flare nostrils, clear nasal passages and make you run screaming from the dinner table, eyes popping from sockets as tears spew from tears while you cough yourself purple... ahh, purple and chartreuse: a lovely color combo! For goodness sakes: just use it sparingly. It’s an attractive part shade rarely-offered perennial. Plant Wasabia japonica ‘Mazuma’ in moist organic soil sited in open to dappled shade. This demands a cool climate. Wasabi hales from East Asia. Established pot grown division.

From Craig M. (OH) on 6.10.2015: Thank you for the quick delivery and very healthy plants! I will recommend your nursery to my fellow green thumbs! Thank you, Wayne, they were very nicely packed! Craig on Lake Erie
