Strobilanthes rankanensis

Persian Shield

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Strobilanthes rankanensis (aka Parachampionella rankanensis) - A pretty, mounding perennial forming clouds of medium green leaves covered with gently arching purple trumpets heralding the midsummer garden for an extended bloom period possibly into autumn. The end of each flower flares wide. Flowers are held above the foliage. They are 1 to 2 inches long and wide. Ahh, is all of this not music to your ears? ...Or is this merely more horrid purple prose?? Very effective en mass front of the border in a larger garden. Site partly shaded situations planted in fertile, draining soil. Perhaps more dappled shade will be culturally advantageous for Strobilanthes rankanensis when planted at the southern end of its reign. Though listed as USDA hardy to the northern verge of 7 we expect this plants has not been well tested in the U.S. In that, we're wondering USDA zone 6 when sheltered? Established pot grown plant from cutting.
