Helleborus orientalis ssp. abchasicus x 'Hell's Belles'
Lenten Rose
Plant Type:
SHADE PERENNIALSHelleborus orientalis ssp abchasicus x 'Hell's Belles' – We spied a couple of plants just this spring with black strems supporting the rich, dark violet flowers of H. orientalis ssp. abchasicus. (The stem color is darker than these pics show.) The stems are darker than the flowers which occur simultaneously making for a striking early-mid spring perennial. The flowers fade and so does the stem color which eventually metamorphoses to green; look at the previous year's stems lying flat on the ground. But it's quite a moment when the stems supporting the flowers emerge from the cool nether regions. Eastablished potted 'Hell's Belles' from division.
