Ruta graveolens 'Variegata'
Rue
Plant Type:
SUN PERENNIALSRuta graveolens 'Variegata' - Blue-gray ferny leaves are drizzled and edged with cream-yellow adding pizzazz to this well-known and historic herb with both culinary and medicinal properties. Golden yellow summer flowers rise above the leaves. We had the variegated form of the Herb De Grace in the garden for many years and were quite fond of it. But, alas the shrubs grew up around it, shaded it and we lost our Rue. As to medicinal uses a long list is written - historically it has been helpful for inflammation, relief of menstrual disorders, fevers, relief of eye strain, parasites, anti-fungal applications and many more uses. It is now more frequently visited upon for treating bruises, sprains, rheumatism, varicose veins, pain, stiffness in the extremities and many more. But don't even think about it without the oversight and consent of a legitimate homeopath. Ingestion by pregnant women may cause miscarriage. Ingest enough of it and it can be deadly. However, in small doses it has a culinary side in sauces or bouquet garni Trouble-free and long-lived in average to gritty draining ground in full sun it will near sub-shrub status in a few years, especially so and sooner in warmer climes. Though adaptable to Ph it's likely happier in sweeter ground. Established, potted Rue from cutting.
