Allium virgunculae 'Eco Snowball'

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Allium virgunculae 'Eco Snowball' - is a lovely late blooming onion with refined grassy green foliage that is edible. Usually purple, the globed umbels on this form are pure white like the proverbial driven snow. White globes emerge October/November. With its exploding fireworks of milk white orbs 'Eco Snowball' looks just like Allium thunbergii 'Album' except for one feature, Eco's height; it is inches shorter though the flower heads are every bit as big as 'Album'. This little fall beauty originated with Don Jacobs of Eco Gardens in Georgia and arrived in a flat among other treats during a visit from our Planta Claus, Jonathan Lehrer. Site 'Eco Snowball' in part to full sun in any soil that drains. If ordered in our autumn shipping window your Allium will arrive as dormant potted bulbs.

Genus Overview: Allium

The Ornamental Onions are a large group with many garden-worthy species. We’ve selected some that have performed well for us. Most require full to nearly full sun in most any average garden soil. The addition of lime is helpful in acid soils. All our Alliums are offered as pot-grown flowering-sized bulbs from our stock plants.
