Allium cyaneum

Blue Chive

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Allium cyaneum – This is a sweet, small ornamental onion with deep blue globes poking above the fine grass-like foliage. They bloom early summer opening from white buds that are reminiscent of miniature exploding fireworks. Sit in sun planted in well-drained soil. Not a weedy species we cannot understand why it is not more often seen. Allium cyaneum is small enough for a trough and lovely in the rock garden or en masse at the front of the full sun border. If ordered in autumn your Allium will arrive as dormant potted bulbs.

Genus Overview: Allium

The Ornamental Onions are a large group with many garden-worthy species. We’ve selected some that have performed well for us. Most require full to nearly full sun in most any average garden soil. The addition of lime is helpful in acid soils. All our Alliums are offered as pot-grown flowering-sized bulbs from our stock plants.
