Symphorocarpos albus 'Variegatus'

Snowberry

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Symphoricarpos albus 'Variegatus' - The variegated form of Snowberry sports countless rounded leaves ringed in white. Insignificant spring flowers give way to showy, waxen puff-like persistent fruits in that late season which may last well into winter. The creamy halos upon all leaves take a modestly dull shrub and raise its ornamental garden worth. Symphoricarpos albus 'Variegatus' will want to colonize making it a very good plant for erosion control, a companion shrub in a mixed-height hedgerow, as a low hedge and in any wildlife scheme. Though deer-resistant bees and butterflies like the flowers and birds may visit the fruits. Berried stems can be used in flower arrangements. As to where the variegated Snowberry was first espied we are uncertain but this specie can be found in most of North America including Canada. Populations of Symphoricarpos albus may be found in some sub-arctic regions but is excluded in the deep south of the U.S., Oklahoma, Kansas, Nevada and Arizona. For gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is advised... maybe? Up to you: your responsibility. Half to full sun in average to moderately good, draining soils. Established pot grown shrub from cutting.
