Silene zawadskii - Zawadski's Catchfly - A thick crop of very clean single leaves like little knives in a tufted rosette stand between 4 and 8 inches tall. In time these will multiply forming dense mats of foliage, understated if not downright handsome. Pristine white flowers composed of finely serrated petals attach to a green bladder flushed with violet, netted with pure violet veins. These rise on multiple inflorescence. Perfect in the rock garden, edging a small border or as a grouping at the front of a perennial patch. It's charming. This fine little perennial is native to eastern European mountains and the Carpathians. Easy in full sun in moist, fertile and draining ground. Established potted Catchfly from seed or division.
