Parrotia persica ‘Pendula’ – This is less a weeping tree than it is a form with a more horizontal branching habit; upon living with it as a component in our landscape at QGN for approximately 20 years I can also report that it is very much a dwarf as compared to its larger brother, Parrotia persica. Some branches cascade slightly but most grow upwards and form the outline of an upright oval(ish). It has all the terrific attributes of its more upright sibling: the mottled bark once it attains a few years of life, the foliage, the autumn color and its early spring glowering red flowers, the gestalt growing into a most beautiful and engaging specimen. 'Pendula' will likely attain a height of 15 to perhaps 20 feet over a series of decades. Site in full sun planted in draining slightly acid fertile soils. Established potted Dwarf Persian Ironwood, cutting grown.
