Mukdenia rossii 'Starstream'
Mukdenia
Plant Type:
SUN PERENNIALSMukdenia rossii 'Starstream' (aka Aceriphyllum rossii 'Starstream') - Broad green incised fans of leaves are streaked with creamy yellow. This is the rare variegated form of Mukdenia. Though Mukdenia is not the prettiest of names it makes one heck of a beautiful clumping perennial, each leaf becoming infused with red later in the season. And I must say that 'Starstream' is a perfectly dazzling cultivar name. Buds at the ends of branched flowering stems open into panicles of white starry flowers held above the foliage beginning mid to late winter in the south, early to middle spring in the north. If you want to see a really spectacular photo of the species check out Dan Hinkley's "The Explorer's Garden: Rare and Unusual Perennials". Site in plenty of sun planted in fertile, organic evenly moist soil. For gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is advised. Pot grown by division.
