Ilex x 'Rock Garden'

Plant Type:

BROADLEAF EVERGREEN SHRUBS

Ilex x 'Rock Garden' - Beautiful dark green to black-green holly leaves with a satin gloss set densely on a very slowly mounding shrub. This female form does set berries - just not many of them. Perfect in the rock garden or at the front of the foundation border or even a "foresty" component in a train garden it is a charmer that will mature about 12 inches tall and over time a bit broader. Open shade to early morning and dappled light in fertile, acid soil. Though we've seen this cutie listed as hardy in USDA zone 5 we think it a safer bet in 6 and south; if in 5 it had better be set in a really sheltered micro-climate and protected from desiccating winter winds - we're just playing it safe. Established, potted Holly from cutting.
