Eucomis 'Sparkling Burgundy'

Pineapple Lily

Plant Type:

BULBS

Eucomis ‘Sparkling Burgundy’ – is a Pineapple Lily sporting beautiful, fleshy red-purple modestly cupped knife-shaped leaves formed in a large rosette angled upward. Leaf edges undulate gently. Atop each flowering stalk which rises from the center of the rosette is a pineapple-like flowering structure filled with purple-pink florets with a dark red-purple tuft poking up at the top. It is a very interesting inflorescence, oddly attractive, an unusual bold texture and an attention-getter. The flower spike can stand 4 feet or taller over the burgundy strap-shaped leaves that might be as short as 2 feet but may approach 3 feet on larger, more established bulbs. These dramatic flowers been magnets for all manner of winged creatures of the insect persuasion. Up north it can make a spectacular potted specimen. We haven’t attempted it yet outdoors in our south facing foundation garden… stay tuned. Dramatic, clumping with slow increase. Keep drier in winter. Division.
