Eleutherococcus sieboldianus ‘Variegatus’ (form. Acanthopanax sieboldianus 'Variegatus') – ​O​This is a beautifully variegated form of the Five-leaf Aralia. There are a couple of variegated forms that fall under the same moniker but this one displays five-fingered green leaves that are boldly and broadly margined in creamy yellow on young leaves which age to white. Variegated Five-leaf Aralia is a most useful slow-growing shrub in open shade to partly sunny conditions as a backdrop to perennials, a hedging shrub or as deciduous contrast to evergreens or in a mixed hedgerow. It has drought tolerance once established and tolerates clay soil. It has come to our attention that Five-leaf Aralia is apparently considered invasive in certain regions; though we have had both the straight green species and the variegated form we offer planted in our gardens for many, many years we have yet to find any offspring. Please be aware of any potentially invasive problem plants where you live and consider alternatives to them. Cutting grown.
