Eleocharis radicans
Radical Fiber Optic Spikerush
Plant Type:
POND & WETLAND PLANTSEleocharis radicans – How's this for a fun common name: Radical Fiber Optic Spikerush?! Sounds like a left-wing super hero to us... Anywho, this curious perennial, in fact a miniature rush, will make an interesting ground cover somewhat resembling weird undersea algal growth. And, in fact, it's very much at home in wet soils. This want for water suggests applications ranging from pond marginal to bog hummock with Pitcher Plants. Eleocharis radicans could make an interesting potted windowsill plant or even an unusual, surprising palette cleanser set between bonsai specimens. It will live in other than mucky soils though; those that retain constant moisture but are not perpetually wet may actually restrain its tendency to spread as quickly as it can in the juicy conditions it prefers. Full to part sun. Pot grown division.
