Camellia x 'Bette Sette'

Plant Type:

BROADLEAF EVERGREEN SHRUBS

Camellia japonica 'Betty Sette' – Displays of semi-double formal flowers in a sumptuous pink tint draw the eye and wheedle their way into your heart. 'Betty Sette' is a spring bloomer and flowers adorn the evergreen shrub for 6 to 8 weeks beginning the reign in April. Leaves are broadly obovate and dark green with lighter green to bronze green on emerging foliage. This Dr. Ackerman creation is slow growing and a bit more dwarf as compared to other Camellia japonica entries. Gee, we wish we could grow these gorgeous plants successfully outdoors in northeastern Connecticut but we're a tad too cold. Having specimens in our greenhouses they bloom for weeks on end in the winter – this is as close to a Florida vacation in winter as we get! Fertile humus-rich, peaty soil that holds onto moisture. If possible site under a tree canopy (avoid surface root spreaders such as maples). Some dappled sun will be okay; early morning sun will be tolerated. Most of the day should be in open shade. Planting under trees will help provide shelter. Don't cheat your plant and it will respond well. Cutting grown.
