Due to its wiry nature this has been a difficult plant to capture in pics, at least with my camera.

Bignonia capreolata 'Variegata'

Fragrant Crossvine

Plant Type:

VINES

Bignonia capreolata 'Variegata' - New emergent leaves and stems are showy pink and some pure white maturing into dark green simple leaves streaked in silvery milk. Older leaves are mostly green with white flecks and splashes but sometimes a bit of pink remains. The main flush of large, showy flame flowers in clusters emerge in spring with a secondary flowering again late season. When in flower this evergreen vine draws butterflies and hummingbirds to its large cymes of funnel-shaped flowers. The pink returns to the leaves in fluorescent fashion come autumn as the green tissue flushes purple. And the foliage turns rich, dark and deep maroon in winter - it's really quite beautiful. Stems are wiry. This is the first and only variegated form of Fragrant Crossvine of which we are aware. Who stumbled upon this rare form and where... well, we don't know?! However, the nativity of Bignonia capreolata is southern Ontario and the eastern U.S. As with many vines this can be strong grower. It can be controlled by annual pruning... Bignonia capreolata 'Variegata' blooms on old wood so if you are going to prune it be sure to do so right after its flowering period is completed. This was an amazing gift from Jonathan Lehrer, our Planta Claus. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa. Full sun to part shade. Plant in average to fertile, moist soil. Established vine from cutting.
