Astilboides tabularis
Astilboides
Plant Type:
SHADE PERENNIALSAstilboides tabularis - Large round umbrellas on hairy stems are bold in the moist shade garden, just beautiful in dappled conditions with the light playing on the broad medium green planes. White plumes of flowers on tall stems rise above the peltate leaves resembling casual Astilbe flowers. The bold leaves are eye-popping. It's not the quickest nor the easiest perennial to establish but well worth the attempt. Late spring frosts will demolish young, tender leaves and these should be protected when a cold night threatens. Formerly known as Rodgersia tabularis, Astilboides demands cool conditions and is best situated in part to open shade planted in fertile soil that retains some moisture between rains. Division.
