Asarum maximum 'Ling Ling'

Panda Face Ginger

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Asarum maximum 'Ling Ling' - Thick-textured dark green, semi-glossy heart-shaped leaves are beautiful all through the growing season. The tri-lobed flowers are 2-inch stunners! Broadly black-purple-rimmed ginger flowers clearly demarcate and contrast with the white interior with a stud of black-purple at the flower's heart, altogether not unlike Ling Ling, the panda bear. In fact, the common name for Asarum maximum is the Panda Face Ginger. It's a thing of unusual striking beauty, large for a ginger and showy. Site in shade planted in fertile, moist soil. We wish we could grow this one outdoors but in a terra cotta pot it sure is pretty in leaf and amazing in flower... and in a pot it's easy to view the amazing flowers! Established pot grown Ginger from division.
