Arum apulum

Apulian Arum

Plant Type:

BULBS

Arum apulum - Deep purple spathes are white to greenish white towards the interior base, the backdrop for the pink, white, purple or some shadowing in between spadices. The outer color of the spathe is pale light green. Leaves arise in autumn and are broad arrows. Flowers flaunt their stuff in spring. The plant is summer dormant. It is found only in central Apulia and is related to the Balkan A. nigrum. This has become critically endangered in the wild as designated on the Italian Red List. Dappled to open shade in woodland conditions. Established potted Arum from seed.

We find all the aroids fascinating, primitive, oddly alluring, curious, with some - those emitting dangerous scent exude lurid malevolence. They are amazing. Their texture is unequaled in the garden adding exceptional interest, excitement and primitive presence.
