Allium stellatum – is known as the Autumn Onion, Fall Glade Onion and Prairie Onion. Buds arise bent at the apex becoming erect after the florets have opened. Globe-shaped umbels can approach the 4-inch diameter mark. Starry pink to pinkish red florets sport yellow anthers. Umbels may occur from July to as late as November perhaps having everything to do with where you are habituated and the provenance of this lovely ornamental onion's genes. Leaves are flattened and green to gray-green. Bulbs are edible. Fall Glade Onion prefers relatively moist conditions in modest to bony soil sited in part to full sun. If ordered in autumn your Allium will arrive as dormant potted bulbs.
