Cassia (syn. Senna) marilandica - This large growing herbaceous member of the Fabaceae forms a dense thicket with an almost shrub-like affect composed of bright green pinnate, ferny leaves. The leaves of Wild Senna look delicate, soft but belie the toughness of this perennial. Huge numbers of clustered bright yellow flowers adorn the strong stems in mid- to late summer. Indian Senna, another common moniker, is a good wildlife plant attracting bees, butterflies and their larvae and even hummingbirds. It will self sow if happy. Full to half sun in fertile to average, draining soil. Cassia (syn. Senna) marilandica will even grow in clay. Cutting grown, by seed or by division.
