Arisaema consanguineum 'The Perfect Wave'

Jack in the Pulpit

Plant Type:

BULBS

Arisaema consanguineum 'The Perfect Wave' (ex: Ellen Hornig, Seneca Hill Perennials) - This later flowering selection of Japanese or Himalayan Cobra Lily, mid to late July here, is typical in flower with hooded spathes in green infused with amorphous brownish maroon shading in places. They are smooth, matte finished and attractive. But it's the leaves that are a knockout with each of its 12 or more long sword-shaped leaflets in silver to pewter shading with more green at their margins arranged like a large umbrella in a peltate form. 'The Perfect Wave' just lights up in the summer shade garden. A grouping creates quite a spectacle. Plant in fertile, organic soil that retains moisture between rains sited in dappled to open shade. 'The Perfect Wave' as with a number of other Asian Arisaema do not rise until sometime in June in northeastern Connecticut... sometimes near the July advent. Where snow cover is guaranteed such as east of the Great Lakes this wonderful aroid is likely ground hardy there under the protection of a thick snow blanket, as cold as USDA zone 4b. Pot grown bulbs or bare root.
