Hebe 'Red Edge' - Blue-silver leaves are edged with a juicy red-pink pinstripe topped with lilac-mauve blossoms in late spring/early summer. The semi-glossy leaves are set closely, and in a very even and attractive architectural rendering all up and down the stems. It will form a handsome rounded dome in the garden. 'Red Edge', a seedling selection from H. albicans, very possibly a hybrid, appears to harbor the potential for greater cold tolerance than nearly all of its relatives. But if you are going to attempt it in USDA zone 7b then shelter it from wicked winter cold; it may be wise to provide some extra protection in its sheltered location. Average, draining soil generally but perhaps a coarser, more sharply draining mix at the northern edge of its climate range. 'Red Edge' will become 'Dead Edge' if in too wet a spot. Fully to mostly sunny exposure, part shade will be fine in warmer climes. Established potted Hebe from cutting.
