Epimedium x 'Space Invaders'

Barrenwort

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Epimedium x 'Space Invaders' (ex: Andy Brand) - Spiny evergreen leaves with space invader flowers... you know, like the video game. Foliage is said to remain good looking into January. April flowers rise and dangle on 12 to 15-inch stems. The flowers are composed white reflexed sepals and impressive spurs, 1 to 1.5 inches long. These are light yellow and cayenne- peppered with rust... rust? Maybe it's time to get those dastardly space aliens into the shop for refurbishing. This handsome hybrid was a gift from Andy Brand of Broken Arrow Nursery. Dick Jaynes handed it to me on a visit to Brooklyn before joining a meeting of Connecticut Christmas tree growers that took place here on Allen Hill Road. And contrary to my questioning of the "rust" color this is really very nice. A good, draining soil in morning sun, dappled to open shade will keep your little aliens happy. Well-rooted pot grown plant from division.
