Filipendula camtschatica (ex: Louis Raymond) - Giant Meadowsweet is a big, bold and robust perennial with huge lobed leaves, stems topped with white to buff-cream cushioned flowers. The soft, irregular cushiony feathers composed of densely-set innumerable florets occur very late spring into summer here in northeastern Connecticut. They appear as windswept cotton candy. The lobed palmate leaves are handsome. Stems will stretch to upwards of 7 feet. Each leafed stem may achieve 18 to 24 inches in width. As this is a colonizing perennial a grand, bold stand will gradually emerge in a matter of several years. Not for the shy or small garden this is a plant of largess whose forceful stature will demand notice. And it will be fantastic in the larger perennial garden set in part to full sun in average to fertile draining soil where it will draw butterflies. Established potted Giant Meadowsweet from division.
