Trachystemon orientalis 'Sundew'

Golden Black Sea Comfrey

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Trachystemon orientalis 'Sundew ' – Large broad and bold bright yellow tongues growing up to 12” long will gradually expand into a solid choppy sea of textured sunshine! 'Sundew' will grow densely enough as to be an effective weed smothering ground cover and a luminous one at that. Stems up to 18” tall support constellations of blue and white flowers which are like shooting stars in spring; they are reminiscent of Borage to which this interesting plant is actually related. Fertile moisture-retentive ground in open to dappled shade. Early morning sun should be fine. The specie's nativity is Bulgaria into Northern Turkey. But this Black Sea Comfrey is a Plant Delights Nursery introduction. It is less robust than the species in theory due to reduced cholorphyll. It is also in pots later to rise than its green brethren; we figure this trait may occur in the garden. For gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is advised. Established potted perennial via division.
