Euphorbia corollata

Flowering Spurge

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Euphorbia corollata - A laudable native Flowering Spurge. Green to blue-green elliptical leaves with a matte finish are the foil for the multitudes of small, disc-shaped white flowers, each composed of 5 flat petals with a dot of green at the heart where stamens and pistil arise. The floral spring show continues into summer for approximately 8 weeks. This plant reminds many of Gypsophila and has inspired another of its common names, Native Baby's Breath. It's clean all season long and lovely in the garden. The clump increases its girth but does not run. Planted as plugs that will expand and meet it can even be employed as a taller, relatively weed-proof, low maintenance ground cover. The Euphorbia are somewhat ignored by gardeners... People: awaken! Ease of cultivation, not pestered by insect or animal, handsome from start to finish - what's not to like?! Some folks, though many not, are sensitive to the white, milky sap of plants in Euphorbiaceae. Contact with skin can cause irritation; though annoying while it endures the sap is not imperiling. Begs the question: why on God's green earth are you charging like a destructive mad person through your garden with exposed bare skin smashing everything in sight? Deer resistant... maybe to do with its sap?! Easy to please and trouble-free in part to full sun in fertile, draining soil. Established pot grown plant by division.
