Symphytum tuberosum

Comfrey

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Symphytum tuberosum (ex: Flintoff) - Another box of wonders arrived at Quackin' Grass from our personal Planta Claus, Jonathan Lehrer, and S. tuberosum was part of the shipment. This is a well-behaved Symphytum... yes, I said a well-behaved Symphytum - shocking! It seems in the plant world there are always exceptions to the rule. With surprisingly slow increase this Comfrey raises lovely pale yellow bell-like flowers knee high in mid to late spring. Now, most of the photos we have seen indicate pretty medium purple flowers but this variant does produce light yellow bells. Have I mentioned that pale yellow works well with every other color? Okay. Okay - I'll shut up now. Dark green tongues of hairy foliage form a not unattractive clump (although I wouldn't say the foliage mounds are winning prizes either but depending upon the counterpoint one can aesthetically maximize textural strengths). Site in open to part shade in fertile soil that doesn't grow parched. If purchased in our Autumn shipping window your comfrey will arrive cut back and ready for bed. Pot grown Division.
