Vaccinium vitis-idaea f. minus - This is the dwarf form of Lingonberry, Foxberry, Cowberry or Mountain Cranberry - take your pick of common name. Vaccinium vitis-idaea f. minus gradually forms a beautiful glossy and thick evergreen ground cover only inches high via short underground stems. It appears that f. minus harbors greater hardiness than f. majus; at least this is the inference one draws when researching climate range. Pink buds open to small white bell-shaped flowers followed by edible tart small red fruits. Fruit on this form does occur though is sparse. Winter color is mahogany-maroon. As with heaths and heathers lingonberries will benefit from an organic mulch. Site in sun to open shade planted in evenly moist to well-drained acid soil. Slowly spreading into a tight mat this is rare and worthy. Cutting grown.
