Uvularia grandiflora – The Large-flowered Bellwort or Merrybells is closely allied with Disporum, Polygonatum and Smilacina. Uvularia has a more delicate appearance with light bright green elliptic and perfoliate leaves on wiry stems. The pale yellow 1” to 1.5” flowers dangle from the tips of the stems in spring, rather showy and pretty followed by small but interesting 3-sided dark purple capsules. This is a plant that clumps increasing its girth annually, slowly; it does not run. Site Merrybells in morning sun to open or dappled shade planted in fertile moisture retaining soil to which organic matter has been added. If ordered in our autumn catalog these will be pruned down, dormant and ready for the long winter's nap. Established potted Bellwort by division.
