Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Tricolor' - The glossy foliage is a gorgeous green, pink and cream mix with the emphasis on the pink and cream. White axillary flowers in exuberant display emit a strong and delicious jasmine scent. Each flower, composed of five recurved petals, is not large but amazingly showy en masse in sheer number. Two of its several common monikers, Tricolor Star Jasmine and Confederate Jasmine, signify the perennial problem with common names: this is not a jasmine; in fact, it is a milkweed relative in the genus, Apocynaceae .

'Tricolor' is adaptable and responds blissfully to pruning. As such it could make an exceptional ground cover with stems massing to as much as 12" deep or a climber on a support on the side of a building in an east or northern exposure in the southern part of its range. It could also make a very beautiful hanging basket plant in the north - outdoors during the growing season and kept indoors, a cool conservatory or greenhouse during the cold months. More sun might be appropriate in its more northerly haunts. But open afternoon shade will keep this beauty happy. Plant in fertile moisture retaining soil amended with dolomitic limestone. Prune to keep it in bounds or let it climb or ground cover in wild abandon. Cutting grown.
