Paeonia japonica – ​This is an early blooming woodland peony, flowering in early May for us. The bowl-shaped flowers are a satiny off-white to white. The delicate appearance belies the apparent toughness as the flowers have survived nights in which we’ve experienced light frosts without browning. Seed pods split open late in the season to display fluorescent crimson un-pollinated seed which acts as a fleshy foil to the plump round dark blue pollinated fruits. The late season interest in the shady border is noteworthy enchanting all those who stroll through our display gardens. Site in fertile draining soil in part, dappled to open shade. Pot grown peony from seed or division.

From Lynn T. (CT) on 9.8.2017 - The peonies arrived yesterday and I appreciate your care in packing them so well. It's exciting to see them in person, and their seed pods are quite showstoppers! I have watered them well and placed them in a sheltered area with indirect light until two will be given as gifts and the remaining 3 will be planted in my garden. Have a lovely Autumn.
