Morella (form. Myrica) pennsylvanica (MALE) – This is the Northern Bayberry or Candleberry. A shoreline shrub, low windswept colonies exhibit great salt and drought tolerance plus excellent deer resistance. Dark green semi-glossed leathery leaves are tongue-shaped, very aromatic when crushed. Of variable growth, deciduous or semi-evergreen, this tough suckering shrub will be taller with faster colonization in better soil and full sun forming a great barrier or screen. This is a dioecious species; as with hollies males and females must be present for fruit production. Cutting grown or division.
