Aster x 'Glow in the Dark' (syn. Symphyotrichum) - Wish the pics were better - this one is hard to capture. Dark, strong purple-black stems support pink-touched-mauve aster flowers August to October. Flowers in contrast to the black as night stems and leaves appear especially bright, luminous. Young leaves are as dusky as the stems but may gradually mature very dark green; if that occurs it will take a while and is more likely on shaded foliage. 'Glow in the Dark' will eventually expand into a glorious cluster. Striking and handsome this hybrid conjured by Brian Ellis is a selection from a cross between A. laevis 'Calliope' x A. laevis 'Fellowship'. Full sun in fertile draining ground. Established potted Aster from cutting or division.
