Pachysandra terminalis 'Green Sheen' - Pachysandra terminalis 'Green Sheen' is remarkable. It is a smaller grower than the species and appears much more refined. The foliage is lacquer-finished in patent leather high gloss green. The gloss looks as if it was painted layer by layer by saturated layer. It is exceptionally handsome. However, if gardeners are not more astute in how they utilize 'Green Sheen' as has its forbear 'Green Sheen' will suffer the same fate as mundane, over-used, boring and tired... I'm personally not a fan of Pachysandra terminalis. Though admittedly the straight species has its uses but all too often has been utilized as a sterile weed suppressing ground cover without thought to companion planting in an artful design. That is my issue with it - not the plant itslef but how it has been utilized thoughtlessly. Perhaps better used if planted in irregular waves with the front wave being the pachysandra followed by waves of taller and taller perennials and grasses with multi-season shrubs and small trees at the back. We sell these in plugs - five plugs in a unit. Fertile ground that retains some moisture between rains. Site in open to half shade, afternoon shade preferable. Fertile draining ground in open shade, dappled shade to some morning sun but midday and afternoon shade.
