Silene maritima

Flycatcher

Plant Type:

ARID LAND PLANTS

Silene maritima (aka Silene uniflora) - Blue-green mats of foliage are studded with very large white Flycatcher flowers on this refined Bladder Campion. The calyces are large and also very showy. The Sea Campion, another common moniker requires average bony ground in full blazing sun. A fine rock garden denizen or front of the border possibility. We really like this plant and think you will as well. Too rich a blend and/or too much moist ground and it's a goner! Look at its nativity: Iceland, the Atlantic Coast, Baltic Sea coast, the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores! Established potted Silene maritima from division.
