Hydrangea paniculata 'Pee Wee' - A dwarf Panicle Hydrangea. White midsummer rounded cones resemble large gumdrops. Panicles expand with a flush of green, mature white and pick up pink tints as the season grows late finally turning warm brown in autumn. This multi-stemmed shrub to 5 feet with an outline of an upright rounded mound is cloaked in typical though smaller foliage than its larger brethren. 'Pee Wee' has so many applications - front of the larger shrub border, as a hedge or a component of a hedgerow, an element in a mixed herbaceous and woody garden, a possible foundation plant in a spot where it would not impact windows... given enough light for flowering I have this vision of it being dotted between an alee of trees or even a backdrop to a herbaceous border filled with shorter perennials. Full to mostly sunny exposure in fertile draining soil. Hydrangea paniculata can be pruned low as it will flower on new wood. Established potted Panicle Hydrangea from cutting.
Hydrangea paniculata. The Panicle Hydrangea is an easy, tough shrub. Blooming on new wood in the mid/late season garden for many weeks on end it exhibits fair drought tolerance once it settles into the landscape. Large cone-shaped white flowers become infused with rose pink as they age. They will turn brown in autumn and as in the case of 'Nana' hang on through the winter for an extra season on interest. Site in full to half sun planted in any good garden soil that drains. All we sell are established shrubs from cuttings. All are a manageable size to easily get them settled into your landscape. The specie's native range is China and Japan.
