Rubus spectabilis 'Golden Ruby'

Golden-leaved Salmonberry

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Rubus spectabilis 'Golden Ruby' (ex: Louis Raymond) - Golden-leaved Salmonberry sports spectacular bright yellow foliage. Spring flowers are five-petaled and deep pink-red. Flowers are in the red spectrum hence the moniker 'Golden Ruby'. Fruits are pink-orange; this may be the reason its common moniker which is Salmonberry. But there is a theory that it is because Amerindians enjoyed eating the fruit with the roe of salmons. Rubus spectabilis is deer-proof. Full sun for best foliage color in fertile, draining soil. Please note that this brilliant yellow-leaved Rubus is rhizomatous; roots are edible and said to be "refreshing". This rambler will naturally, gradually colonize if allowed. The species originates in Alaska south into California, east to Idaho. Where the golden-leaved form was discovered we do not know... but I'll bet someone out there does! Let us know. Established potted bramble from cutting or division.
