Clethra alnifolia 'Mrs. Campbell' - The distinguishing feature of 'Mrs. Campbell' is that flowers are openly branched standing an average of 7 inches tall. The gestalt of the branched spikes is large, open and airy as compared to the inflorescence of 'Anne Bidwell' which is composed of quite vertical, densely set stems; the inflorescence is strikingly large as compared to the straight species. The white summer spikes emit a sweet spicy fragrance on this selected Sweet Pepperbush. The glossy foliage is an attractive medium-dark green foliage turning a respectable bright yellow to golden yellow in autumn. Dried inflorescence hold in the winter landscape providing a bit of embroidery atop the shrub. Stems are attractive. Selected in Virginia. Established potted Sweet Pepperbush from cutting.
