Rohdea japonica 'Mure Suzume'

Sacred Lily

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Rohdea japonica 'Mure Suzume' (ex: Jonathan Lehrer) – Smaller and denser and pygmy by comparison to its normally larger growing siblings describes this variegated selection of Sacred Lily. The translation means "flock of sparrows". Lovely, no? Shorter, thick-textured, dark green leathery strap-shaped leaves exhibit creamy blotches and streaks. Typical flowers and fruit are commensurately smaller than the species. Jonathan Lehrer acquired this as an unnamed clone from Collector's Nursery some years back. We believe that we have correctly identified it as 'Mure Suzume'. Site in fertile to draining woodland soils. All Sacred Lilies are tolerant of dry summer soil. Plant this dwarf form in shade. As we expect that demand will out pace inventory please order early – it is likely we will ever have but few available and perhaps not in every year. And for Rohdea enthusiasts this plant is a must. Plant this smaller growing selection in shade front of the border where it will brighten both heart and shade. 'Mure Suzume' will make a beautiful potted plant as well. Spring planting is strongly advised in the northern range - please wait. Shelter at the northern fringes. Established pot grown division.
