Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Kaori hime' - This Fragrant Princess Fall Tea Olive is a marvelous dark green-leaved dwarf that grows very slowly maturing to approximately 24 inches adult by an equal width. It is dense and mounding. Very young plants will flower with full-sized fragrant white flowers in the late season. Each individual leaf grows only about three-eighths-inch long. This very dwarf False Holly, another common moniker, will make a great long-lived bonsai, front-of-the shrub border edger, a specimen in a miniature garden, a rock garden plant - even a railroad garden specimen of merit. One way to look at 'Kaori hime' is that it is to the False Holly what the Rutgers Hybrid Ilex are to Hollies. And their leaves do look like those of evergreen hollies. It will make a substantial bonsai specimen of great character with patience, eye and skill. Full sun to part shade in fertile, draining soil. Drought tolerant once established. Established pot grown shrub from cutting.
