Deutzia x hybrida ‘Magicien’ – This large-flowered Deutzia, an old French Lemoine hybrid from 1925, is robust and beautiful. Large three-quarter-inch pink bell-shaped florets whose central petal veins often sport a lighter, whitish stripe also often display lighter petal edges as well. Up to nearly 36 individual florets can cluster together onto large racemes in spring. They are showy, pretty and welcome. Branches erupt from the crown, rise and form a large, rounded outline in the landscape. This multi-stemmed shrub is of easy disposition and can be used as a backdrop to shorter perennials, as an element in a hedgerow and as a foreground plant to larger shrubs and trees. Autumn leaf color sometimes colors to a respectable deep, dark earthy purple. Full sun in fertile soil. Established shrub from cutting.
